Such a fun book. Terry Pratchett is a master of satire. He strikes this great balance of satirising fantasy while creating a whole unique fantasy novel. He weaves together common fantasy tropies, e.g. the Barbarian, into great adventures. Where upon initial exposure of a character it seems that he's mocking the archetype but then that character goes on a really engrossing adventure.

These hilarious characters exist within Discworld. "a planet-sized flat disc carried through space on the backs of four gargantuan elephants – Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon and Jerakeen – who themselves stand on the shell of Great A'Tuin, a gigantic sea turtle" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colour_of_Magic

There is also multiple levels of metaness to this novel. One being that "Twoflower" the protaganist behind "Rincewind" is "an insurance clerk from the Agatean Empire who has come to visit Ankh-Morpork". He represents the modern 20th century reader within this fantasy world and experiences with an attitued as if he was the reader themselves transported into the novel.
